Ralph Mathekga
Senior Expert at the Geopolitical Intelligence Services
Dr Ralph Mathekga is a Senior Expert at the Geopolitical Intelligence Services (GIS) and a News24 Columnist. Previously, Dr Mathekga has held positions as a Senior Policy Analyst at the National Treasury of South Africa (2008-10), a Lecturer at the University of the Western Cape (2007-08), a Political Researcher at the Institute for Democracy in South Africa (2005-07), and a Fielder Researcher at the Economic Development, Growth and Equity Institute (2001-02). Dr Mathekga regularly contributes content to local and international publications, including The New York Times, Washington Post, and Financial Times. He has written over 400 opinion articles in various newspapers and magazines, both locally and internationally. He is the author of the book When Zuma Goes (2016) and Ramaphosa’s Turn (2018). Dr Mathekga completed his PhD in political studies at the University of Johannesburg.
