Dr Tomas Ries is senior lecturer in Security and Strategy at the National Defence College in Stockholm. Having worked with security studies since 1979, he focused on globalising security environment and future trends, the US-Soviet strategic nuclear relationship in the Arctic, Soviet military interests and grand strategy in the north, Nordic security and Finland’s security policy. With a PhD from Institute of International Studies at Geneva University, Dr Reis has taught as adjunct professor and Åbo Akademi, the Baltic Defence College in Tartu, Royal Academy of Military Science in Stockholm, Royal Naval Society in Stockholm, and Finland’s Academy of Military Science in Helsinki. He has been member of the Atlantic Council in Washington, DC, and served on several boards, expert advisory groups, and networks.
