Amanda Sloat

Professor at the IE University

Dr Amanda Sloat is Professor of Practice in International Relations at IE University in Madrid, Spain. Most recently, she served in the Biden Administration as Special Assistant to the President and Senior Director for Europe at the National Security Council. She previously worked as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Southern Europe and Eastern Mediterranean Affairs at the State Department during the Obama Administration and as a Senior Professional Staff Member on the House of Representatives Foreign Affairs Committee. In addition, she has held fellowships at the Brookings Institution, Harvard University’s Kennedy School, and Queen’s University Belfast. She holds a PhD in politics from the University of Edinburgh and a BA in Political Theory from James Madison College at Michigan State University. She has published a book, Scotland in Europe: A Study of Multi-Level Governance, as well as numerous articles on European politics in academic and media outlets.
