Daniela Schwarzer

Member of the Executive Board of the Bertelsmann Stiftung

Dr Daniela Schwarzer has been a Bertelsmann Stiftung Executive Board Member since 2023. She is also an Honorary Professor of Political Science at Freie Universität Berlin and a Senior Fellow at Harvard University. Previously, Dr Schwarzer served as Executive Director of the Open Society Foundations in Europe and Central Asia (2021-23), served as Special Advisor to the High Representative and Vice-President of the European Commission Josep Borrell (2020-22), and was Director of the German Council on Foreign Relations (2015-21). She taught at Harvard University as a visiting professor (2012-13), was Director of the Europe Research Group at the German Institute for International and Security Affairs (2005-13), and was a Board Member of the German Marshall Fund of the United States (2013-16). Additionally, Dr Schwarzer was co-rapporteur of the working group on EU reform and enlargement, convened by the French and German governments, which submitted its report in September 2023.
