Espen Barth Eide

Member of the Parliament, Former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Norway

Espen Barth Eide is a Member of Parliament in Norway. From 1993-2000, he was a Senior Researcher, Norwegian Institute of International Affairs (NUPI). 2002-05, directed NUPI’s Department of International Politics. He spent ten years in the Norwegian government (2000- 2001 and 2005-2013), holding the positions of Minister of Defence, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Deputy Minister of Defence. Until October 2013, he was the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Norway. 2014-16, he was Managing Director and Member of the Managing Board, World Economic Forum, Geneva. 2014-17, United Nations Special Adviser on Cyprus, chairing the negotiations aiming at reunifying the divided island. Since September 2017, Member of the Norwegian Parliament. He has pursued an academic career in political science and involved in several United Nations reform and lessons-learned activities as well as in peace negotiations worldwide. Member of the Board and current Vice-Chair and Chairman of the Operations Committee, HD.
