Commander of NATO Allied Joint Force Command Brunssum

General Ingo Gerhartz serves as Commander of NATO Allied Joint Force Command Brunssum, a position he assumed in June 2025. In this role, he directs a combined NATO staff responsible for planning, conducting, and supporting military operations on land, in the air, at sea, in space, and in cyberspace within his area of responsibility. From 2018-2025, he served as Chief of the German Air Force. He has held major ministerial staff assignments, including as Deputy Spokesperson, Executive Officer to the Chief of Defence, and Deputy Director for Strategy and Operations. A career fighter pilot with over 3000 flight hours on the F-4F, MiG-29, Tornado, and Eurofighter, he has held multiple command positions, including as Wing Commander during the NATO Mission to Afghanistan. His distinguished service has earned him numerous awards, including the Israeli Chief of Staff Medal of Appreciation and the US Air National Guard Minuteman Award.
