Krišjānis Kariņš has served as the Prime Minister of the Republic of Latvia since January 2019. Before taking the Prime Minister’s office, he was a Member of the European Parliament from 2009 to 2019. Prime Minister Kariņš previously held the position of the Minister for Economics of Latvia from 2004 to 2006 and a Member of the Saeima (Parliament) from 2002 to 2009. Prime Minister Kariņš acquired PhD degree from the University of Pennsylvania in the linguistics major. Before starting his political career, he was a successful entrepreneur.
