Head of the Russia Department at the Centre for Eastern Studies
Marek Menkiszak is Head of the Russia Department at the Centre for Eastern Studies (OSW), a state think tank based in Warsaw, Poland. A graduate of the University of Warsaw, he was a faculty member at the Institute of International Relations there from 1995 to 2003. He has been with OSW since 2000. Since 2003, he has also been a lecturer at the Centre for East European Studies at the University of Warsaw, and from 2013 to 2018, a lecturer at the Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He specialises in Russia’s domestic, foreign and security policy. He has led several OSW research projects, including on NATO in the post-Soviet area, Russian–German relations, and Russia’s external economic activity. He was a member of the EU–Russia Task Force at the EU Institute for Security Studies in Paris (2008–09) and a visiting researcher at the Finnish Institute of International Affairs (FIIA) in Helsinki (2013). He was an OSW Fellow at the Transatlantic Academy of the German Marshall Fund of the United States in Washington, DC (2015), and a visiting researcher there again in 2023. He is a member of the editorial team of the Strategic Yearbook.
