Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the United States to NATO
Matthew G Whitaker has served as the Permanent Representative of the United States to NATO since April 3, 2025. Prior to his appointment, MrWhitaker built a distinguished career in both private practice and public service. In the public service, MrWhitaker served as the Acting U.S. Attorney General (2018-19), the Chief of Staff of the Attorney General Jeff Sessions (2017-18), and the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Iowa (2004-09). Outside the government, MrWhitaker has held senior positions at the America First Policy Institute, the American Cornerstone Institute, the American Conservative Foundation, Graves Garrett Greim Law Firm, and was the Managing Partner of Whitaker Hagenow & Gustoff, LPP, along with many other high-level roles at law firms, institutes, and companies. MrWhitaker holds a Juris Doctorate from the University of Iowa.
