Roberta Metsola is the President of the European Parliament. She was first elected to the European Parliament in 2013, and was re-elected in 2014 and again in 2019. In 2020, she was elected as the European Parliament’s First Vice-President. President Metsola was Parliament's rapporteur on the European Border and Coastguard Regulation. She also co-authored Parliament's own-initiative report on the need to protect journalists in the European Union from SLAPP. Prior to her election as a MEP, she served within the Permanent Representation of Malta to the EU and as the legal advisor to the High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy. Graduating from the University of Malta and the College of Europe in Bruges, she is a lawyer specialising in European law and politics.
