Seth G Jones

Senior Vice President at the Center for Strategic and International Studies

Dr Seth G Jones is Senior Vice President, Harold Brown Chair, and Director of the International Security Program at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS). He serves as a Commissioner on the Afghanistan War Commission, which was established by the US Congress, to conduct a comprehensive review of US involvement in Afghanistan. He focuses on defence strategy, military operations, force posture, and irregular warfare. Prior to joining CSIS, Dr Jones was the director of the International Security and Defense Policy Center at the RAND Corporation. He also served in various positions in the US Office of the Secretary of Defense and US Special Operations Command. He is the author of six books, the most recent of which is Three Dangerous Men: Russia, China, Iran, and the Rise of Irregular Warfare (WW Norton, 2021). Dr Jones graduated from Bowdoin College and received his MA and PhD from the University of Chicago.
