Timothy Snyder

Levin Professor of History and Global Affairs at Yale University

Timothy Snyder is the Levin Professor of History and Global Affairs at Yale University. As a permanent fellow at the Institute for Human Sciences in Vienna, he co-founded Documenting Ukraine, which supports Ukrainian scholars, journalists, and artists as they chronicle war. He chairs the academic council of Ukrainian History Global Initiative, a multiyear, interdisciplinary, and international project on the deep history of the country. Snyder has received a number of distinctions, including state orders from several countries. He has appeared in documentaries and other films, and does regular television, radio, and other media work. His twenty books include Bloodlands, Black Earth, On Tyranny, and The Road to Unfreedom, and most recently On Freedom.
