Two Steps Forward, One Step Back – Impact of the War in Ukraine on Caucasus

May 18, 08:15-09:45

The South Caucasus is undergoing a geopolitical transformation. The war in Ukraine and the effective resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan have changed the traditional relations of the countries and their main partners. Armenia has sought closer engagement with the EU and joined the ICC, which has issued an arrest warrant for Vladimir Putin. At the same time, there are concerns over the Georgian government’s close ties with the Russian government. Where will we go from here? Can there be lasting peace in the South Caucasus?
