NATO Assistant Secretary General for Intelligence and Security
David Cattler has been NATO’s Assistant Secretary General for Intelligence and Security since December 2019. Prior to his current appointment, he was a senior national and defense intelligence official of the United States. He has significant experience at the national, joint, and service levels, Mr Cattler has advised the President, Director of National Intelligence, civilian agencies, military leaders, and operational forces. He began his career as a naval surface warfare officer. Mr Cattler earned academic degrees from the United States Naval Academy and Georgetown University. He also is a graduate of the National Intelligence University, the US Naval War College, and was a Senior Fellow at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Seminar XXI: Foreign Politics, International Relations and the National Interest. He has been awarded The Order of the Cross of Terra Mariana (Third Class) from the President of Estonia; DNI Distinguished Service Award; Director of the Defense Intelligence Agency’s Distinguished Service Award, among others.
