Geir Westgaard

Senior Adviser of Geopolitics and Energy, Equinor

Geir Westgaard has run Equinor’s offices in Washington, D.C., and Brussels. He spent five years in London as head of (geo)political risk analysis for the company. Westgaard has also worked on sustainability issues both within Equinor and at Business for Social Responsibility (BSR) in San Francisco. He is a former Norwegian diplomat whose postings abroad included Moscow, Vilnius, and Washington, D.C. Westgaard has worked as a foreign policy adviser to the Prime Minister of Norway (1995-1997) and a special adviser in charge of High North (Arctic) policy to the Foreign Minister of Norway (2006-2008). He is a political scientist. He holds a BA from the University of Oslo and a Master of International Affairs/Soviet studies from Columbia University. Westgaard has also spent a year as a foreign policy Fellow at Harvard University’s Center for International Affairs.
