Jakob Hallgren

Director of Swedish Institute of International Affairs

Jakob Hallgren has been the Director of the Swedish Institute of International Affairs since February 2022. From 2021 until early 2022, he served as Sweden’s Ambassador for Disarmament and Non-Proliferation. Previously, Mr Hallgren was Sweden’s Ambassador to the Republic of Korea from 2018. His career includes leadership roles in the Swedish Government and Ministry for Foreign Affairs, the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute, and diplomatic postings in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Switzerland. With a deep commitment to international cooperation and conflict resolution, Hallgren has worked closely with the United Nations, the European Union, and numerous other organisations, focusing on security policy, mediation, peacebuilding, security sector reform, disarmament, humanitarian affairs, and disaster risk reduction.
