Associate Fellow with the Transatlantic Security Program at the Center for a New American Security
Kate Johnston is an Associate Fellow with the Transatlantic Security Program at the Center for a New American Security (CNAS). Prior to joining CNAS, Ms Johnston worked as a Research Associate for Princeton’s Innovations for Successful Societies – leading research on post-hurricane reconstruction in Puerto Rico. She graduated in 2023 from Princeton’s MPP program, following ten years as a British diplomat. Ms Johnston has served overseas in Turkey (responding to the Syrian civil war) and South Sudan, as well as working in London on the Middle East and North Africa, and sanctions policy. Ms Johnston’s research focuses on examining the shared challenges the US and allies face from Russia in lower- and middle-income countries, as well as threats to democracy in Europe and beyond.
