Leila Alieva
Associate of Russian and East European Studies at Oxford University School for Global and Area Studies
Dr Leila Alieva is an Associate of Russian and East European Studies at the Oxford University School for Global and Area Studies, researching Russia, the South Caucasus, and the former Soviet Union, where she taught a course on “Political Economy of Energy Transition” at the Department for Continued Education. She is also a Senior Fellow in Peace, Security, and Defence at the “Friends of Europe” think tank in Brussels. In 2021–22, she was awarded a Richard von Weizsacker Fellowship of the Robert Bosch Academy in Berlin, and before that, a fellowship at the Institute Für Kulturwissenschaften (IFK) in Vienna. Dr Alieva held research fellowships at Harvard University (1993–94), UC Berkeley (2000), the Kennan Institute at the Woodrow Wilson Center (1995), Johns Hopkins University (SAIS, 2001), NATO Defense College (Rome, 2005), and the National Endowment for Democracy (2008). Her work was published by the Oxford University Press, Sharpe, Jane’s Intelligence Review, as well as many other academic and policy journals and books.
