Mehmet Şimşek

Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, Turkey

Mehmet Simsek is Deputy Prime Minister of Turkey. He studied Political Science at Ankara University and has a MPhil in Finance and Investments from University of Exeter. His early career was spent working in the US Embassy as a Senior Economist and in the private sector on Wall Street in New York for UBS (1997) before returning to Turkey to work as an Economist for Deutsche-Bender Securities in Istanbul (1998-2000). He previously served as the Minister of Finance from 2009 to 2015 and Minister of State responsible for the economy.
