Rym Momtaz

Consultant Research Fellow for European Foreign Policy and Security at the International Institute for Strategic Studies

Rym Momtaz is a Consultant Research Fellow for European Foreign Policy and Security at the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS). She specialises in French foreign and defence policy, European defence and security, and the transatlantic relationship, as well as in Middle East geopolitics and security. Prior to joining the IISS in 2022, Ms Momtaz spent more than three years covering French President Emmanuel Macron for POLITICO where she wrote agenda-setting articles such as “The Macron Method,” “Emmanuel Macron's Russian Roulette,” and “Emmanuel Macron, Think Tanker In Chief.” She has had an award-winning journalism career spanning 16 years, winning three Emmy awards among others, and covering Islamist jihadism and the wars in Syria and Iraq.
