 It is said that Russia will not stop at Ukraine and will, in the future, test NATO’s resolve. As the United States re-orients its focus and resources towards Asia, Europe needs to acquire more critical capabilities itself. The European defence industry is seeing an influx of investment, and governments are increasing their defence budgets. But should we start buying off the shelf immediately or wait until our own industry is ready to produce? The drone warfare in Ukraine teaches us that military technology currently evolves at a speed not seen before, and what works wonders today may become useless in a few years. Yet, a tank is still a tank. How to strike the right balance between stockpiling and innovation? Is our current pace fast enough?
