Jill Dougherty

Adjunct Professor, Georgetown University

Jill Dougherty is an adjunct professor at the Center for Eurasian, Russian and East European Studies in Georgetown University. Her chief area of interest and expertise is Russia and the post-Soviet region. She served as CNN correspondent for three decades, reporting from more than 50 countries, including Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, China, North Korea and Russia. She left CNN in 2014 in order to carry out research and writing on the Russian media and the Russian government’s international and domestic communications strategy. She has also carried out field research at the International Centre for Defence and Security (ICDS) in Tallinn. Her articles have appeared on cnn.com, washingtonpost.com, The Wilson Quarterly, theatlantic.com, themoscowtimes.com and other websites and publications. Dougherty is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and the World Affairs Council, while she continues with CNN as a contributor, providing on-air expert commentary on Russia.
