Lolita Čigāne has been active with several international organisations and in Latvian politics since the mid-1990s. From 1997 to 1999, she worked for Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty. From 2001 to 2007, she managed civil society projects to clean up the finances of Latvian political parties and political campaigns. She headed the Latvia branch of Transparency International from 2008 to 2010. In 2010, Čigāne was elected to the Latvian Parliament, Saeima, serving as the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Finance 2013-2014 and chair of the European Affairs Committee 2014-2018. Having decided to take a break from active politics in 2018, she currently works as an international consultant in political finance, elections and good governance. She serves as Head of Mission for the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights Election Observation Missions (ODIHR EOMs) and works as visiting faculty at the Stockholm School of Economics in Riga.
