Robert Nurick is a senior fellow in the Scowcroft Center for Strategy and Security at the Atlantic Council in Washington, DC. In 2014 he was visiting senior fellow at the Finnish Institute of International Affairs in Helsinki. His previous positions include senior fellow at the James Martin Center for Nonproliferation Studies, director of the Carnegie Moscow Center (2001-2003), senior political scientist at the RAND Corporation (1985-2001) and assistant director and director of studies at the International Institute for Strategic Studies in London (1981-1985). He has also served in the US Department of Defense and the Arms Control and Disarmament Agency, working in particular on theatre nuclear forces and nuclear arms control. He is President of the Board of the Friends of the European Humanities University (a Belarusian university currently in exile in Vilnius, Lithuania).
