Ardo Hansson is responsible for the overall governance of the Bank of Estonia, and for revising
and supervising the bank’s management system. He is also responsible for guiding public and
international relations, framing the legal environment, managing human resources, leading the
organisation, and for internal administrative services. He is a member of the Governing Council
of the European Central Bank and in this capacity participates in formulating monetary policy for
the euro area. Hansson has previously worked for several renowned universities and published
numerous articles on economic policy. He worked as an economist in the World Bank from 1998 to
2012 with Eastern European and Balkan countries and China. In 1997 he was economic adviser to
the Prime Minister of Estonia, and in 1991-92 adviser to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Estonia.
